Unless mine was repainted before I got it in the 1970s, I did not detect any painted grain. I matched the color from what was protected under the horn elbow because the rest of the paint was in bad shape. I suppose they might not have continued the grain effect under the elbow though. It's nice to know that I have a rare example in my steel and brass horned type 6. The faux mahogany graining makes what would be a nondescript horn something extraordinary. It may not have the flash of the No.24B or the mass appeal of a mahogany No.31, but I'd bet that it's the rarest of the horns meant for the Victor "6/VI."
