If you use the creating-a-mark method to test the stylus, try it on a few records. I replaced a stylus that made a mark on the run out and the new one did the same thing. Interestingly, the new one did not make a mark on any other record, just that one. In that case the record was the problem. Play it in the runoff area, if it leaves a mark the stylus is no good. If you move it around under the light and see a flat spot, no good. Does it have records? I would not want to pay much more than $200for it as you want to be able to get your money back if you wanted to sell.
